Premier League Matchday 3 - Review!

Brighton VS Manchester United

Sid:
I knew the game would be close and I also knew that United would win with Bruno Fernandes scoring the winning goal from the spot but what I did not see coming was that the penalty came after the match ended. Yes, the match ended but was restarted so that United could score a penalty. If VAR has to help United, try making it a little less evident. Nevertheless, Neal Maupay had scored a cheeky panenka penalty and celebrated with crying celebration. Lucky for him that he is a good player to complement the absolute shithousery that he has brought into the league.

Videep:
Brighton has been quite good lately their, while Manchester United hasn't. Neal Maupay might've thought that his 95th-minute equaliser would get them a point, but of course Manchester United would take the lead through a100th minute penalty. Even though I predicted a United win pre-game, I'm as confused as you are.

Crystal Palace VS Everton

Sid:
Everton edged past through another controversial VAR decision in a close game against another top 10 side. Calvert-Lewin has scored 5 goals in just 3 games now and Richarlison has also been in great form. With James Rodriguez behind them and Lucas Digne whipping crosses from down the flank, Everton can have a very solid season and can break into the Big 6 if they continue on this track under Carlo Ancelotti.

Videep:
A close game that could have gone either way, ended up being a game for the blue side of Merseyside. In-form striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his fifth game of the season to give the lead to Everton. Kouyate equalised 15 minutes later only for a controversial VAR penalty scored by Richarlison to give Everton back the lead before half-time. Wilfried Zaha would have hoped to make a bigger impact. I felt Crystal Palace should have won the tie in the beginning.

West Brom VS Chelsea

Sid:
West Brom signed former Chelsea full-back Ivanovic last week and then went up 3 goals in just half an hour against Chelsea itself. West Brom was hoping to steal a surprise three points from Chelsea and so was all of Chelsea's rivals but looks like Lampard had quite a speech to give at half time as Chelsea's academy players stepped up to grab a point with an injury-time goal by Tammy Abraham. Chelsea would hope their signings this season would step up as soon as possible after errors by debutant Thiago Silva and below-par performances by Werner in the previous weeks.

Videep:
West Brom took a shock first-half three-goal lead, only for Chelsea to slowly, desperately get back on track after goals from Mason Mount, Calum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham, proving that its the previous, young players who are continuing to carry the flame of the torch rather than the many signings Frank Lampard has made in the window. West Brom won their first point after three games.

Burnley VS Southampton

Sid:
Danny Ings surprised everyone with 22 goals last season and seems to be continuing on that track as he scored a very early goal for Southampton which was enough for them to take all three points home from Turf Moor. It was the only shot that Southampton had on target and surprisingly enough but otherwise it was a pretty close game although Ings and Kyle Walker-Peters did give an edge to their team.

Videep:
A closely contested fixture after the goal, Burnley would like to look back and question why they didn't score an equaliser as they attempted double the shots than their opponents (5 for Southampton; 10 for Burnley) and double the shots on target, too (1 for Southampton; 2 for Burnley).

Sheffield United VS Leeds United

Sid:
Leeds have started strong after getting promoted this season itself and with Marcelo Bielsa in charge and a group of great young players, Leeds have a great season ahead and that continued against a struggling Sheffield United as in form Patrick Bamford scored a late goal with help from Manchester City player Jack Harrison on loan at Leeds. For now, Sheffield has a lot of things up their sleeve right now after having no points from their first three games and they have to fix things as soon as they can.

Videep:
Another game that ended 1-0, again the visitors with the win. Unlike the first game, the goal in this game, came in the dying minutes when Patrick Bamford scored in his third continuous game to give Leeds the win. Sheffield United have now lost all three games that they have played.

Tottenham VS Newcastle United

Sid:
VAR strikes yet again with a late controversial decision. It looks like they purposely wait for added time to make such decisions and this time it was Spurs who had to pay. After a great goal by Lucas Moura that even Gareth Bale appreciated from the bench, the win was in sight for Spurs until the ball ended up hitting Eric Dier's hand inside the penalty area while he was in the air and new arrival Callum Wilson did not miss the chance to grab a point for his team. Jose Mourinho was visibly upset and he has every reason to be after dropping points that they did not deserve to lose at all.

Videep:
Lucas Moura's 25th-minute goal was cancelled out by a Callum Wilson penalty deep in the added time of the second half. Surprise, surprise, another controversial VAR handball giving Newcastle a pretty undeserving point. Another bad news for Spurs fans, Son Heung-Min was subbed off at half-time due to injury concerns.

Manchester City VS Leicester City

Sid:
Going in with just 13 fit players, Manchester City had a task for themselves and for the first half an hour it looked like they could see through this game after a wonderful strike from former Leicester City player Riyad Mahrez using his weak foot but penalties conceded by Walker, Eric Garcia and Mendy along with a brilliant long-range strike from Maddison and a flick by Jamie Vardy into the near post which completed his hat trick saw Leicester become the first team to score 5 goals against Pep Guardiola. Man City would have hoped they would have signed Ruben Dias earlier and would be available for this game. The city really needs to fix their left-back situation and either Mendy can up his game or walk out of the door and same goes for Eric Garcia who seems interested in joining Barcelona which is probably best for both parties given the current situation.

Videep:
In another controversial game of the night, Leicester City was given three penalties as they came back from an early goal by make-shift striker, Riyad Mahrez. Jamie Vardy scored his second hat-trick against Pep Guardiola and the game ended 5-2 to the visitors.

West Ham VS Wolves

Sid:
Wolves had a bit of their morale down after defeating to Manchester City but a defeat against West Ham was not seen coming by them as the Hammers ran riot with their manager David Moyes managing the team from his home through a video call. Raul Jimenez ended up with an own goal as Bowen scored a brace and Haller finished the game with a goal in added time. It looks like Wolves really are missing Doherty and Diogo Jota and someone needs to fill the space up urgently.

Videep:
Wolves, too, fell to a surprise defeat against West Ham United, with midfielder Jarrod Bowen scored twice and Sebastian Haller scored once. This comes after Wolves added another Portuguese, Nelson Semedo to their team after purchasing him from Barcelona. A game that I expected Wolves to take away with a margin, to be honest.

Fulham VS Aston Villa

Sid:
Fulham is favourites to get relegated and it looks like the people who bet on it do not have anything to worry about as Jack Grealish leads his team towards three points away from home after scoring the first goal in the 4th minute itself. Tyrone Mings also managed to get on the scoresheets and for now, it looks like Aston Villa will not be getting relegated and rightfully deserve to be in the league, unlike last year.

Videep:
Fulham seems to be nailing their own coffin as they have been conceding too many on each occasion. Aston Villa survived relegation by a whisker last season and is favourites to go down again. The same can be said about Fulham, but at least Villa can get on the scoresheet. Only one man has consistently scored for Fulham (Mitrovic), and even he can rightfully have an off-day. It was great to see Villa win by a margin, though.

Liverpool VS Arsenal

Sid:

The most important game of the week as Liverpool looked to defend their title whereas Arsenal looked to start fresh and finish high this season under Mikel Arteta. Liverpool had already lost twice to Arsenal last month and did not want to make it a third especially at Anfield and after a mistake by Robertson, Arsenal took the lead but Liverpool pulled back almost instantly as Mane scored followed by a goal by Robertson, who fixed his mistake and a debut day goal for Diogo Jota for Liverpool after coming on from the bench as Liverpool went their third game in a row with all three points.

Videep:

One of the games of the week, where both teams had come off a good run. Both teams had a hundred per cent win rate in the Premier League and the win for Liverpool meant that they are now one of three teams that have won all their games. Robertson made an error, fixed it. Lacazette made a flurry of misses (attempting all the shots Arsenal had on target), but did nothing to salvage even a point. Aubameyang seemed invisible throughout. Arsenal and Liverpool face one another once again in the coming week in the Carabao Cup.
