La Liga Matchdays 4 and 5 - Review!

Matchday 4

Real Sociedad vs Valencia

Sid:
Sociedad was stunned at home by a weakened Valencia even after dominating the game throughout as Valencia relied on Counter attacks and it did pay off for them as Maxi Gomez scored late in the second half from a ball by Jose Gaya which ended up being enough for a struggling Valencia to take 3 points home after drawing with Huesca last week.

Getafe vs Real Betis

Sid:
Another team to get stunned this week were Real Betis who saw themselves get another red card this week and which cost them dearly even after having over 70% possession as Getafe scored from 3 out of 4 shots on target to pile up on Betis's misery and hand them their second defeat in a row after they had, in fact, won their first two games of the season.

Huesca vs Atletico Madrid

Sid:
Atletico Madrid had started their new season with a bang after netting six goals against Granada which saw former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez score twice and assist once in just 20 minutes but they failed to continue on that path and ended up with a goalless draw against a much weaker Huesca. Atletico may have dominated the game with more shots and more possession but at the end of the day, they could not make their opportunities count and ended up dropping early crucial points away from home.

Villarreal vs Alaves

Sid:
Villarreal was expected to win out there and they did with two goals coming from Paco Alcacer a goal from Gerard Moreno and Edgar Mendez grabbing a consolation goal in the first half itself. Alaves gave a very tough fight to Villarreal on the pitch but were technically not much of a competition for Villarreal who eventually became more comfortable after scoring and ended up with the win.

Eibar vs Elche

Sid:
Two teams fighting relegation had a big chance for themselves to get the three points for themselves and push the other team further down in the relegation battle and that is exactly what Elche did today after being the weaker team on the pitch but it took them just their first shot on target to get their only goal in the game and that was enough for them even though Eibar looked more likely to win.

Real Madrid vs Real Valladolid
Sid:
Madrid has a title to defend this year and after starting with a draw, they picked themselves up and grabbed their second win of the season with Vinicius Junior scoring the only goal for the game which was important for both Madrid and Vinicius to prove himself after respective rivals Barcelona and Ansu Fati scored goals and won their games and continued to keep the pressure on Barcelona.

Sevilla vs Levante

Sid:
Sevilla might not be favourites but surely they can be termed as the underdogs this season and they showed why they deserved to be called the underdogs with the second win of their season in a much more closer game than their previous one against Cadiz. Sevilla scored another late winning goal in extra time by En Neysri and even though Sevilla won the game in extra time, Levante hardly put a fight and Sevilla would have gotten a draw anyways.

Athletic Club vs Cadiz

Sid:
Cadiz had fallen to Sevilla late last week but surprisingly bounced by against an almost equally tough side. Cadiz was very lucky to even after two of their players, Alvaro Negredo and Carlos Akapo and their winning goal also coming through an own goal by Unai Lopez. Honestly, it does not get any luckier than this.

Celta Vigo vs FC Barcelona

Sid:
Barcelona won comfortably against Celta Vigo away from home with goals coming from Ansu Fati, an own goal by Lucas Olaza and an extra-time goal by Sergi Roberto saw 10 man Barcelona take the victory home after Lenglet got sent off in the 42nd minute as Ansu Fati continued his goal-scoring streak and kept the pressure on Real Madrid after winning both their games of the season.

Matchday 5

Real Valladolid vs Eibar
Videep:
Eibar pulled off a shock win against an opposition that was expected to humble them. Valladolid was never really in the game as even the first goal that was scored came for the away team just before the 30-minute mark, through a penalty. Valladolid, however, did find an equaliser before half time. The home team would have hoped to take the game following a red card for Eibar in the73rd-minute, but Kevin Rodrigues scored for the visitors in the 90th-minute.

Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal
Videep:
Atletico Madrid went goalless in their second consecutive match as they failed to even take a shot on target. Villareal found their way to Jan Oblak on a couple of occasions, but could not pull-off anything concrete. Even though the goal difference from their win in matchday 3 favours them Atletico would want to pull their socks up and do what is expected of them.

Real Sociedad vs Getafe
Videep:
Sociedad dominated in a game that most people would have expected to be closer. While Getafe was coming off a win, Sociedad had lost their last fixture. Real Sociedad was on the lead through a penalty in the 28th-minute and required two late goals to seal off the win for them.

Elche vs Huesca
Videep:
After Elche's surprise win away from home midweek, the players would have wanted to keep morale high in the camp by winning another one. However, missed chances and poor finishing from both ends saw another goalless game in La Liga this week. Both teams find themselves in similar positions on the points table, but Elche has played two lesser games and would want to aim for a mid-table finish the way they're playing.

Valencia vs Real Betis
Videep:
Valencia continued their inconsistent run in the campaign by losing 2-0 against a surprisingly delivering Real Betis, who put an end to their run of two consecutive losses by winning against underperforming Valencia. Goals during the middle of both halves secured their third win of the season, while Valencia found themselves handed with their second loss of the season.

Osasuna vs Celta Vigo
Videep:
Another surprising result saw Osasuna stun Celta Vigo at home. Vigo was keeping the ball more, but Osasuna's defence kept shutting them off which didn't allow them to get too many shots in. Osasuna was devastating every time they had possession and took advantage of Celta Vigo's distracted defence. They climbed up the pitch with ease and scored when it mattered the most.

Alaves vs Athletic Club
Videep:
A late red card did not affect the result as Alaves scraped off a gritty win against pre-game favourites, Athletic Club. Despite the goal coming in the final fifteen minutes, the game was always seen controlled by the visitors who dominated possession but failed to have any shots on target, at all. Alaves took advantage of all the missed chances by putting all forces to attack and finding that goal in the mid-70 minute.

Levante vs Real Madrid
Videep:
Real Madrid continued their hot form by racking up another win, this time against a struggling Levante. Vinicius Junior scored in his second consecutive game and Benzema scored in the dying seconds of the game to double the lead. Thibaut Courtois seemed to continue on his last season's performance by making a few vital saves and keeping his second consecutive clean sheet.

Cadiz vs Granada
Videep:
Both teams were quite equal going to attack as they've both got similar amounts of shots taken and shots on target. The similarities of both teams reflected n the scoresheet as both missed their set of chances. While Granada enjoyed more possession, they were neutralised by Cadiz's defence, who gave it their all keeping Granada attackers away.

FC Barcelona vs Sevilla
Videep:
Goals coming in before the 10-minute mark set high expectations for everyone. Unfortunately, what started as a thrilling game, continued to become a long and dreary game as both teams failed to make use of their chances and ended up sharing the points. In what was a potential banana skin match for Barcelona, Sevilla showed nothing of their Europa League dominating force as they played defensively and seemed happy clearing the ball out every time Barca got it in.
