Serie A Matchday 2 - Review!

Torino VS Atalanta

Sid:
Atalanta were expected to win today and they did. Belotti got on the score sheet twice which is not a surprise either given the fact he is their best player by a mile. You can expect goals from Atalanta throughout the season and probably a handful from Belotti as well and if Atalanta do what they have done last year, they can have another great season and probably a shot at a trophy as well.

Videep:
Not a very surprising result considering the Atalanta we saw that reached the Quarter Finals of the Champions League. 4 goals scored, 4 different scorers. Exactly the type of dominance I expect them to continue throughout the season.

Sampdoria VS Benevento

Sid:
Sampdoria hit quickly in the game but clearly could not maintain the level of play through out the game or even the first half for that matter and as the game progresses, Benevento upped their tempo to get a goal and the a late winner.

Videep:
Yes, Sampdoria was on a two-goal lead, but unfortunately for them, they did nothing to protect the lead, and let Benevento take control of the game, That's where things went wrong as Luca Caldirola scored one just past the half-hour mark and equalized in the 72nd minute. Eventually, Gaetani Letizia scored a late winner in the 88th minute.

Cagliari VS Lazio

Sid:
Lazio won and European Golden Boot winner Immobile scored in the 74th minute to seal the game for Lazio after Lazzari opened the account early for Lazio in the 4th minute itself. Things can be very interesting this season in Serie A as Lazio has also registered itself as a team in the already jam-packed race for the Scudetto.

Videep:
Lazio continued their pursuit of a top 4 finish with a win in their first game back. Golden Boot Ciro Immobile didn't fail to disappoint as he asserted his dominance in the game by scoring the second for the visiting side.

Inter Milan VS Fiorentina

                                                                                                                                                                Sid:
Inter Milan have a massive season ahead of them. With signings like Hakimi and Arturo Vidal, Inter has their eyes on the big prize but a Ribery masterclass almost put a dent on their dreams. Luckily, late goals by Lukaku and D'Ambrosio saw Inter Milan scrap through although they would have to do better than this if they really want to win the Serie A as they are up against Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus.

Videep:
In the game of the weekend in Italy, where the eventual winners ended up having to equalize thrice before scoring the winner. 37-year old, Franck Ribery dribbled past the Internazionale defenders several times and assisted twice. Two late Inter Milan goals handed the home team the win when Romelo Lukaku and D'Ambrosio scored in quick successions to qin the game 4-3.

Spezia VS Sassuolo

Sid:
Sassuolo went home with a win and even a big one for that matter but they also had two disallowed goals which would have made the game even better for then. The game was all level until Berardi scored the penalty and it went all downhill for Spezia from there as they conceded two more goals in ten minutes which sealed the deal for them. Spezia would have to do better if they have to spend the next year in Serie A as well although it was a game in which Sassoulo had the upper hand.

Videep:
Spezia should count themselves lucky as the scoreline could have been a lot worse if not for the two goals that Sassuolo had scored were disallowed by VAR. One really can't complain about the scoreline, either, as it was all one-side traffic regarding the possession and shots taken for the visiting side.

Verona VS Udinese

Sid:
Udinese started their season with a close game that unfortunately ended in defeat for them as they fell to Verona by just one goal. It was a very close game on paper and the most likely result would have been a draw given Udinese's performance on the pitch but in the end stats do not win you games, goals do and that is what happened here.

Videep:
Verona was playing their second game of the campaign, while Udinese was playing its first. Verona finished quite well last season and have started the new season with two wins out of two. Udinese should count themselves unlucky as they fairly dominated the game, and Verona somehow scored the one goal that mattered.

Napoli VS Genoa

Sid:
After a below par season last time out, Napoli wanted to go big this season and that is exactly what they did out there. With Koulibaly not leaving the club, Napoli have a lot of pressured reduced trying to find a replacement for him. Lozano hit twice after a poor debut season last year and with the deal for Milik falling through as well, Napoli only have to focus on their games rather than the transfers and they did focus on the right thing which is pretty evident from the scoreline.

Videep:
Genoa survived relegation by 4 points last season and started this season with a win. Unfortunately for them, a resurgent Napoli side was to be faced just in their second game. To simplify the story, Napoli hit Genoa for a 6, with a one-sided performance, where the visitors stood no chance.

Crotone VS Milan

Sid:
Crotone being a new team in the league whereas Milan being the arguably biggest club in Italy who looks to regain their lost glory as they undergo a crucial season revolving around their team's redevelopment went head to head as goals from Kessie right before the first half whistle and a debut goal for Brahim Diaz saw a resurrecting Milan see through Crotone even without Zlatan Ibrahimović who missed the game after COVID-19 tested positive for Zlatan. All our prayers are with COVID.

Videep:
Crotone is one of the three newly-promoted teams and they've started the campaign in a sour note, with two out of two losses. AC Milan, on the other hand, has started on the complete opposite front as they try to qualify for the Champions League. Real Madrid loanee, Brahim Diaz managed to get on the scoresheet in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimović, who missed the game after testing positive of COVID-19.

Roma VS Juventus

Sid:
Roma went ahead early through a penalty but Juventus levelled with a penalty of their own which was instantly followed but Veretout scoring again right before half time to take the lead for his team. Edin Dzeko then missed a great chance to seal the game for Roma as Ronaldo went on ahead to score another towering header to level the game yet again. Hopefully Juventus can do better in the upcoming games rather than Ronaldo carrying them yet again this season even though the other players showed significant improvement in their performances from last season under the management of Andrea Pirlo.

Videep:
Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Jordan Veretout twice to end the game at 2-2. Both players scored their first off a penalty, but the highlight of the game was Cristiano's second, which (once again) was a sublime header, where he jumped higher than all of Roma's defence. Something about short Italian defenders, eh?

Bologna VS Parma

Marc Fernandes:
Mihajlovic's men had a fine game against a disappointing Parma side who they beat very comfortably. Soriano continued his good form from the Milan game scoring 2 goals and setting up another. Olsen scored Bologna's third after which Hernani scored a consolation goal for Parma. The game was finished with a sweet finish from Palacio to make it 4-1.Good comeback for Bologna after their loss against Milan. Parma needs to step up now after 2 losses in 2 games in the Serie A.
