Bundesliga Matchday 2 - Review!

Hertha Berlin vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Sid:
Frankfurt may have won but Hinteregger had a day to forgot as he scored his 6th own goal in the Bundesliga, the joint highest in the history of the league. It was a much closer game on paper and on the pitch as well as Frankfurt scored 3 goals from just 3 shots on target and Berlin produced none from 6 as Frankfurt managed on the top of the table even it meant for a couple of hours.

Videep:
Frankfurt seemed to be back to their dominant self after a forgettable last season as they beat Hertha Berlin 3-1, giving the hosts almost nothing during the game. It would be interesting to see Frankfurt challenging for Europe again. I expected a somewhat closer game between the two sides, but a dominant win was on the cards, instead.

FSV Mainz vs Vfb Stuttgart

Sid:
Newly promoted Stuttgart would want to stay in the league and they had their chances against Mainz, and they did not disappoint as they slotted 4 goals and in a way announced that they will not be one of those teams who get promoted one year and get relegated in the next.

Videep:
A complete humiliation I didn't see coming, quite frankly. Stuttgart haven't played their best football for a while now, but this match gave us a glimpse of the kind of team they have the potential to be. Quite underrated and in the right place to get some changes made; they're in it for the long run.

Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig

Sid:
Both Leverkusen and Leipzig lost their star players to Chelsea. Both teams were on the same level last season. With their biggest players gone, they are on the same level yet again and they will go head to head for a Champions League spot although Leipzig was more likely to win this game given their manager and players they also possessed the disadvantage of playing an away game and eventually the points were split between the two teams.

Videep: Maybe one of the closest games of the week in Europe, both teams were deprived of their star players by Chelsea in the transfer window, and the absence of both Havertz and Werner is sure to be felt all season. I would have expected Leipzig to eventually win, though.

Monchengladbach vs Union Berlin

Sid:
If Monchengladbach played as good as their jerseys, they might as win the Champions League but that is probably not how the game works as Thuram's goal was later cancelled out by Schlotterbeck and newly promoted Union Berlin managed to gain one good point against a decent side.

Videep:
Monchengladbach had been a team to be last season in the Bundesliga and they would hope to continue with the same mindset and attitude. Once again, Marcus Thuram getting on the score sheet in a game they should have won with a better margin.

Bielefeld vs Koln

Sid:
Another new team and this time they managed to get all the points from Koln who were much more likely to win this game. Bielefeld could be underdogs this season and it looks like someone else will be getting relegated this season if they continue to perform this way.

Videep:
Bielefeld came out with a surprise result at home against FC Koln by getting a goal in the final 15 minutes of the game. While Koln were favourites for the game, a draw would have been a fairer result for both teams. Bielefeld could be the surprise this season.

FCA Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund

Sid:
A huge shock for everyone. Dortmund went in with young blood and a very good fitness coach this season with the hopes of stunning Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga trophy but Dortmund ended up showing the same inconsistency they had shown last season and it looks like Lucien Favre's time is coming to an end and Mauricio Pochettino seems to be the exactly the type of person that Dortmund would want to have.

Videep:
The most surprising result, by far, this weekend, where Borrusia Dortmund was in for a surprise away at Augsburg, losing 2-0 to them in the process. Boasting one of the best youth systems and attackers, Dortmund goes into most matches as clear favourites, but their inconsistency under Lucian Favre is the reason for their defeat on many occasions.

FC Schalke vs Werder Bremen

Sid:
Schalke just lost Mckennie to Juventus and even though they had a comaparitevly poor season last time out, Werder Bremen had been worse and Schalke was thinking that this might be an easy win this season but it looks like Schalke are not going to be performing this year as well although the did get an added time consolation goal for themselves.

Videep:
This one should come as a shock for Schalke as Werder Bremen was a team fighting off relegation last season. With Schalke almost clear favourites before the game, they would be questioning what went wrong and how. On the other hand, Niclas Fullkrug would have been proud of his game as he bagged a hattrick.

Hoffenheim vs Bayern Munich

Sid:
Treble winning Bayern Munich just won the Super Cup against Sevilla and having to play against Hoffenheim again might be a little troublesome but with Thiago. Coutinho. Perisic and Odriozola all gone and Javi Martinez on the move, there might be some gaps opening up in the otherwise perfect team. Hoffenheim go top of the table with this win but can they hold on to this lead is the real question.

Videep:
Another shock result in Germany today, as the Champions were brought to their knees with a 4-1 thrashing at the PreZero Arena to Hoffenheim. The defeat comes in the wake of a Super Cup win midweek, bringing the concern of fitness to the game. However, upon the resumption of Champions League action, Bayern will have to play after every 2-3 days, leaving them no excuses.

SC Freiburg vs VfL Wolsburg

Sid:
One first-half goal for both teams saw this game come to an end with one point for both teams to go home with and although Wolfsburg looks better on paper, Freiburg were the better ones on the pitch and eventually managed to get an important point in the mid-table race.

Videep:
First-half goals from both teams, where the visiting side cancelled out the home side, made sure that the game ended at a stalemate. Both teams had similar possessions, but Freiburg looked the more dominant side in terms of attempts created.
